SIGN THE PETITION TO GIVE THE COMMUNITY A VOICE!
Save Our Shops is a campaign by local small businesses in Victoria opposing a big multinational company that is trying to destroy small business and remove the community's voice from planning decisions.
Foreign-owned Kaufland is buying up land throughout Melbourne’s suburbs in order to drop massive mega malls on communities without giving them a say.
This is an attempt by a foreign multinational to change your local community without giving you a voice.
You can change this today by signing the petition below!
In order to do this, Kaufland is overriding local decision-making processes by seeking State Government intervention to mass rezone land in five communities across Melbourne, including in Dandenong, Mornington, Coolaroo, Chirnside Park and Oakleigh South.
This is only the start, they will take over more communities if they get their way.
If they are allowed to do this, it will smash local businesses, drive up traffic congestion and ultimately hurt consumer choice.
Now is the time to fight back!
They know there will be resistance, and that’s why they have gone behind the community’s back, to ensure you and your local shops don’t get any say.
This would be the first mass spot rezoning granted by the Victorian Government since 2012, and it would set a standard across our state that means industrial land can be turned into a shopping centre, with impacts on local businesses, local amenity and your house price.
The Minister has agreed to consider Kaufland’s requests, so we need him to stop the process, to change his mind, or get the Premier to step in and say no!
The first step in the Minister’s process is for each site to be reviewed by an Advisory Committee.
The Committee’s advice will then be used by the Minister to justify approving the five rezonings for Kaufland.
Premier Daniel Andrews can save our local small businesses right now by giving planning powers back to local Councils where they belong.
